How to Protect Yourself

If you take these measures, you will minimize the risk of breach of your computer security and therefore your iBank account.

Usernames

  • Username and Passwords. Keep your Username & passwords private and don't use the same password for all your needs. Do not write them down! Always create unique passwords, avoid using names, birth dates, phone numbers, etc.

Signature

  • Digital Signature. Keep your Digital Signature private; do not store it on the hard drive of your computer.

Updates

  • Updates and patches. Keep your computer’s operating system up to date. To check for patches and updates you should visit the developer’s website, typically in their Download section. Microsoft users can visit: Microsoft Update where you can automatically check what is required for both operating system and browser and then download it.

Anti-virus

  • Anti-virus software. Ensure that up to date anti-virus software is installed on your computer, and all necessary options are enabled. Update your anti-virus software frequently, as new viruses are identified every day. There are many popular programs to choose from, but the most common and effective is by Symantec (Norton).

Firewalls

  • Firewalls on networks. A firewall is another efficient program that helps protect your computer from outside intrusion. When installed it stops unauthorized traffic to and from your PC. The widely recognized market leading free firewall is “Zone Alarm” from Zone Labs.

Anti-spyware Software

  • Anti-spyware software. Spyware is not the same as a virus in that it only records what you do rather than altering how your machine works. Because of this, anti-virus software is not effective in identifying and removing spyware; you will need to download and run a specialized anti-spyware program. Anti-spyware security software currently available include McAfee, AdAware, and Microsoft antispyware. We strongly recommend that you install and use a reputable anti-spyware product to protect yourself against spyware on your PC.>.
